Driver and conductor together

Who can do this: Bus crew

A bus can have a driver and a conductor. In PinkTower the two roles can do exactly the same things: both see the same roster on My bus, and either can mark a child on or off. They are separate roles only so the office knows who is who.

You are marking the same list

Whatever one of you marks, the other sees. The roster refreshes by itself every half a minute or so, and whenever you come back to the app, so if the driver marks a child from the front, the conductor's screen catches up.

If you both tap the same child, nothing is counted twice. The second tap is reported as already done, and the first time is kept.

Agree who marks

It works best when one person marks at each stop, usually the conductor, who is free to look at each child. The driver can mark when travelling alone.

Close the run

The tap that matters most is the last one. Until a child is marked Dropped off, their parent's screen says they are still on the bus.

  1. At each stop, tap the children getting off.
  2. Press Dropped off.
  3. At the last stop, check that nobody is still showing On bus to school or On bus home.

If a run is left open, PinkTower closes it by itself after a few hours. It does not claim the children arrived, because nobody saw it. Their parents see Arrival not confirmed, with the time the child got on, and are left to ask the school. A morning run closed this way does not mark anyone present on the register, so their teacher has to.

The child who has already gone home

The morning and afternoon runs use the same list of children, so a child whose mother collected them at two o'clock is still on your screen at half past three. On the afternoon run, PinkTower says so beside their name, for example Mrs Bello collected them at 14:02., and refuses to board them. The rest of the stop boards as normal.

If the child really is standing with you, you can board them anyway:

  1. Select the child and press On the bus.
  2. PinkTower asks you to confirm, saying the child has already gone home.
  3. Press Board anyway only if the child is with you now.

This is the only tap on the crew screen that asks first. It is recorded against the run with your name, and the child's parents are told the child is on the bus. See Warnings and problems on a run for the other afternoon warning.
